Live Well Omaha Kids (LWOK) is a coalition working collaboratively to ensure that every child has the opportunity to live a healthy life. Our efforts are successful because of the time, expertise, and resources that partners and community members bring to the table.

Today we are spotlighting Jeff Spiehs, the Community Relations Manager at the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency.  He is actively involved in the civic life of Omaha as the President of the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance and Public Engagement Chair of the Greater Omaha Young Professionals Council. Jeff currently serves as the Chair of the United Way Community Investment Review Team Housing Committee and is a graduate of Leadership Omaha. Jeff is married to his wife Melany. They have three girls and live in the Little Italy neighborhood. Jeff enjoys running, the art and music scene of Omaha and taking walks downtown with his family.

Jeff has been lending his experience with community-building and assessing neighborhood walkability to Live Well Omaha Kids’ Safe Routes to Schools project. He helped co-facilitate one of our first walk audits and utilizing geographic information system (GIS) mapping tools, Jeff and the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) created maps that display common paths students and their families can take to walk or bike to school based on where they live. Check out the Holy Name Safe Routes map here.

Thank you for being an advocate for active children and families!
