I have been the School Nurse at OPS’s Kellom Elementary for three years. When I started at Kellom, they had many resources available to the students such as Grab and Go Breakfast, Weekend BackPack Program, weekly fruits and vegetables, Operation School Bell and Tooth Mobile.
This year the school received a $1000.00 grant from Live Well Omaha’s Partners for Healthy Schools program. The money will be used to purchase water bottles for the students for our field day at the Creighton Soccer Field on May 19th. It will also be used to purchase recess equipment for each grade.
Kellom also participated in the Go Dance Challenge sponsored by Go Nebraska Kids/CHI Health and were the grand prize winners. This was a fun way to get the Students, Parents and the Kellom Community involved in a wellness event. This money will also be used for recess equipment and storage bins for the equipment.

In celebration of Every Kid Healthy™ Week (April 25-29, 2016), Live Well Omaha Kids is featuring schools that participate in the Partners for Healthy Schools program and have made strides to improve the health and wellness of their students.
Every Kid Healthy™ Week is an annual observance created to celebrate school health and wellness achievements and recognized on the calendar of National Health Observances. Observed the last week of April each year, this special week shines a spotlight on the great efforts our school partners are doing to improve the health and wellness of their students and the link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning – because healthy kids learn better! Everyone in the country can get involved and be a part of the celebration to help support sound nutrition, regular physical activity and health-promoting programs in schools.
