Live Well Omaha Kids welcomes community organizer, Claudia Granillo, from the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table to the Live Well Omaha team over this next year. The Nebraska Civic Engagement Table places community organizers with member organizations with the purpose of showing the benefit of having a full-time organizer on staff; to gain measurable data to support their programs and secure future funding, and to create a pipeline of nonprofit leadership for talented and engaged advocates in underserved and underrepresented communities.
My name is Claudia Granillo and I am the new community organizer for Live Well Omaha Kids. I am an Omaha native and I attended UNO for both my BA and MS in Political Science. After graduation, I knew that what I wanted to do was work for a nonprofit organization. I became interested in nonprofit work after interning at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, which made me aware of health access issues in our community. What I love about nonprofit work is that there is a focus on the community and that the work helps to better the lives of those who are our neighbors. I like that the work is personal and that I can see how it makes a difference in people’s lives.
I came to Live Well Omaha Kids through the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table Organizer School (NCET). The NCET Organizer School trains individuals to become community organizers and partners them with a nonprofit. Since one of my areas of interest is health access, Live Well Omaha Kids is a perfect fit! I believe that it is important for the community to be involved with the work that an organization is doing. I think that by working together, both the organization and the community will see positive change. I hope that during my time at Live Well Omaha Kids I will be able to positively affect the lives of many people. I am very excited to be part of the Live Well Omaha team and I look forward to learning from and building relationships with the community and growing as an individual as well as growing as a community organizer.
