Live Well Omaha Kids (LWOK) is a coalition working collaboratively to ensure that every child has the opportunity to live a healthy life. Our efforts are successful because of the time, expertise, and resources that partners and community members bring to the table.

Today we are spotlighting, Sarena Dacus, Health Specialist on the TTA team at ICF. She works with Head Start grantees across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri to support the development of healthy and safe environments, programs and services for children and families.

Sarena has been involved with Live Well Omaha Kids’ resident engagement project, which aims to improve the health and wellness of children and families living in ZIP codes 68111 and 68107. Sarena co-facilitated two focus groups and a follow-up meeting of parents and caregivers in 68111, leading discussion to discover what the adults view as assets and obstacles to kids’ eating, physical activity, and use of community resources.

Sarena is actively involved in a variety of local public health efforts. She currently serves on the Leadership Team for the Women’s Fund of Omaha’s Circles network, where she co-chairs the Diversity & Inclusion subcommittee. Furthermore, she participates in the Heartland 2050 Equity and Engagement Committee and the Iowa West Foundation’s Healthy Families Advisory Committee.

Sarena is a graduate scholar of the Great Plains Leadership Institute as well as the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands Executive Institute. In 2016 she was recognized as one of the Midlands Business Journal’s 40 under 40.

Thank you, Sarena, for being an advocate for healthy, active children and families!
